I set out this morning to begin reading this weeks Torah portion Beha’alotcha: “When you set up” Numbers 8:1-12:15; Haftarah portion: Zechariah 2:14-4:7; Gospel portion: Luke 17:11-18:14.  I break this down for our family during the week.  Today we will study Numbers 8:1-4.  We will pay particular attention to the lampstand and specificly the number of lamps in the lampstand, seven.

Num 8:1-4

And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying, 2 “Speak to Aharon, and say to him, ‘When you set up the lamps, let the seven lamps give light in front of the lampstand.’ 3 And Aharon did so. He set up the lamps to face toward the front of the lampstand, יהוה commanded Mosheh. 4 And this is the work of the lampstand: beaten work of gold, from its base to its blossoms it is beaten work. According to the pattern which יהוה had shown Mosheh, so he made the lampstand.

Lampstand:

Exo 25:37 “And you shall make seven lamps for it, and they shall mount its lamps so that they give light in front of it.

Exo 37:18 And six branches came out of its sides: three branches of the lampstand out of one side, and three branches of the lampstand out of the other side.

Lev 24:2 Command the children of Yisra’ĕl that they bring to you clear oil of pressed olives for the light, to make the lamps burn continually.

Psa 119:105 Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.

Psa 119:130 The opening up of Your words gives light, Giving understanding to the simple.

Isa 8:20 To the Torah and to the Witness (YESHUA!) If they do not speak according to this Word, it is because they have no light.

Mat 5:14 You are the light of the world. It is impossible for a city to be hidden on a mountain.

Joh 1:9 He was the true Light, which enlightens every man, coming into the world.

2Pe 1:19 And we have the prophetic word made more certain, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts

Seven: In Scripture the number of completeness/rest

Resource: Wildbranch Ministry – Brad Scott

Man was created on the 6th day and is represented in his nature by the number 6. There is only one (1) thing that stands between man (6) and completeness (7), and that is the (1) one God Himself. In the same way the complete (7) Word of God had to set aside His glory (1) in order to take upon the flesh of man (6). Either way, man always falls short.”
