I am breaking my “silence” through my blog this morning, I couldn’t sleep and was laying in bed meditating on this verse.  Which only made me excited to “research” more about it!  Shavuot (Pentecost) is this Saturday evening / Sunday evening.  We have had a really wonderful 50+ days.  More to come!

Romans 8:2

For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set me free from the law of sin and of death

The question I ask is what is the “law of the Spirit of life?”

First, look at the word law:

While this list is exhaustive, it is all the places this particular word for law is used.  I want to first point out all the places in the Torah (the 5 books of moses) that this word for law is used in context (if I understand correctly).  Lets look at some verses from the Torah:

Exo 12:49 One law shall be to him that is homeborn, and unto the stranger that sojourneth among you.
Lev 26:46 These are the statutes and judgments and laws, which the LORD made between him and the children of Israel in mount Sinai by the hand of Moses.
Num 15:15 One ordinance shall be both for you of the congregation, and also for the stranger that sojourneth with you, an ordinance for ever in your generations: as ye are, so shall the stranger be before the LORD. 16 One law and one manner shall be for you, and for the stranger that sojourneth with you.
Num 15:29 Ye shall have one law for him that sinneth through ignorance, both for him that is born among the children of Israel, and for the stranger that sojourneth among them.
Deu 4:44 And this is the law which Moses set before the children of Israel: 45 These are the testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which Moses spake unto the children of Israel, after they came forth out of Egypt

This same word for law is throughout the rest of the Tanakh (or OT):

Psa 19:7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.
Psa 37:31 The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide.
Psa 119:72 The law of thy mouth is better unto me than thousands of gold and silver.
Psa 119:77 Let thy tender mercies come unto me, that I may live: for thy law is my delight.
Psa 119:85 The proud have digged pits for me, which are not after thy law.
Psa 119:142 Thy righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and thy law is the truth.
Psa 119:174 I have longed for thy salvation, O LORD; and thy law is my delight.

The Hebrew word for Law in the above verses is Torah.

For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set me free from the law of sin and of death

I did a word search for “Spirit of life” :

Job 33:4 The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.
Joh 6:63 (Yeshua speaking) The Spirit is the one who gives life; human nature is of no help! The words that I (Yeshua) have spoken to you are spirit and are life.
Rom 8:6 For the outlook of the flesh is death, but the outlook of the Spirit is life and peace
Rom 8:10 But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is your life because of righteousness.
2Co 3:6 who made us adequate to be servants of a new covenant not based on the letter but on the Spirit, for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

The “letter” kills because transgression of the Torah/law is sin and death without Yeshua Messiah!  Yeshua Messiah freed us from the TORAH/LAW OF SIN AND DEATH.  NOWHERE does the Bible tell us that Messiah freed us from the LAW<period>  He freed us from the LAW OF SIN AND DEATH.

Prophesying of Yeshua, Isaiah writes:

Isa 53:12 Therefore I give Him a portion among the great, and He divides the spoil with the strong, because He poured out His being unto death, and He was counted with the transgressors, and He bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

Praise you ABBA!
