Joshua learns best by seeing and doing … not by writing and reading. This morning, his math was about gallons, quarts, pints, and cups.
I don’t buy gallon milk anymore, so I had to improvise a little. I showed him 2 half gallons. We repeated the mantra: “1 gallon is 4 quarts. 1 quart is 2 pints. 1 pint is 2 cups.” Then we went the opposite way. “2 cups is 1 pint. 2 pints is 1 quart. 4 quarts is 1 gallon.” We repeated this over and over while touching the objects on the counter. Joshua loves repitition. The more I can get him to say things out loud and the more times he says it the more it “sticks.” We had a great math lesson and it lasted only 30 minutes and not 3 hours. He got it!
